The Story of Notre Dame
Brother Aidan's Extracts

PRESENTATIONS

"It is a most pleasing and genial custom, established long since at Notre Dame of testifying the sentiments of the students toward their professors and Prefects by the presentation of some token of esteem....

"As a rule we do not like presentations; that is, speaking in the abstract, for we were presented with a box of cigars and felt like receiving any number of them. Still, when they take place at the end of the year, and are presented as a mark of the appreciation of the students for the earnestness and devotedness of their Professors and Prefects, we praise the act."

-- Scholastic, Anon. 1871.
