Jorda, Jayme
(New Orleans, Louisiana)

to Bishop (Luis Penalver y Cardenas)
(New Orleans, Louisiana)

Captain Jorda, widower of Constansa de Reggio, wishes to marry Maria Elena de Reggio, her sister, and wishes a dispensation. Since Pius VI is dead and it is not known whether there is a successor elected and war making it difficult to get word from Europe, Jorda petitions (Penalver) since the king by decree of September 5, 1799 allows the bishops of his dominion to use their full faculties as regards matrimonial dispensations. Jorda is a native of Calella, Catalun, son of Jaime Jorda and Maria Anna Jorda y Rufart and widower of Constansa, daughter of Francisco Maria de Reggio, formerly a councilman of this city, and Elena Florieau. His fiancee's father is dead; she is from one of the most distinguished families of the province. She is over 36 and there are advantages for her in this marriage and also it secures the Christian education of Jorda's daughter.
