Some results of political upheaval have caused Dutton worry. A certain official would make conditions that might be ugly enough to force the mission to withdraw. Fitte, C.S.C., Father S(tanislaus) F.: Canton, O(hio)
to James F. Edwards: Notre Dame, (Indiana)

He will leave Canton to visit some old friends in Pennsylvania. If Edwards does not receive a note before August 10th, it will be a sign that Fitte is unable to meet him in New York. He mailed Edwards a Chicago paper that speaks for itself; and awful scandal is going on in the press for the last eight days in connection with Father Peter Muldoon's appointment and consecration. It is an outrage and it beats anything that has ever happened in this country for many years. Fitte made friends of two prominent priests of the Cleveland diocese, Father (Charles V) Chevraux of Toledo and Father (John) O'Connor of Cleveland.
