(1906?)

(1906)
(Egan), M(aurice Francis): Eckington, D(istrict of) C(olumbia)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

They have just got into a charming house. Egan is getting better but he will never risk another summer in the hay fever latitude. He likes the idea of the young men's club, but how shall he get them into St. Paul's? Had they not better meet in his study or shall he go to the club room? Bishop (John Joseph) Keane's taking off was the most bungling thing in all Egan's experience of his ecclesiastical bungling. If this (Catholic) University (of America) be let alone, it will grow quietly in the right direction. Egan has four post-graduates in for higher degrees, Gerry, O'Connor, Harrington, and Father Cummings. This shows growth. Egan has come to hate pen and paper. (Charles Warren) Stoddard is not so well. The Century accepted Quinlan's poem.

1906
Frenguelli, Pasquali: Rome, (Italy)
to James F. Edwards: (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Both he and Card. Satolli have received Edwards' letters. He complains of Edwards' slowness in paying the 500 Lire. He speaks of an order received with the letter of Edwards from a young lady in America, for a bronze bust for 1,250 Lire. He accepts the offer, and asks for another photograph.

(1906?)
Mannix, Mary E.: San Diego, Calif(ornia)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Hudson's co-worker has not one tenth of Hudson's literary taste. Mannix was surprised at what Hudson wrote about editing. Benziger's does not require it. Mannix did not think "A Daughter of Heroes" would have taken up more than one number of the Ave Maria. Donahoe's has written asking for another story. Mannix is going to write another story for Benziger's after she has finished the "Lives of the Saints" series.

(1906)
Spalding, Bishop J(ohn) L(ancaster): Peoria, Ill(inois)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Mrs. Stevin has told him of Hudson's letter of inquiry concerning his books and he has added two or three titles to the list. His health continues to improve.

(1906?)
O'Gorman, C.S.Sp., Bishop John A.: Mayamba, Sierra Leone
to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C.: (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Hudson's letter was handed to O'Gorman as he was leaving Freetown three weeks ago. O'Gorman is laid up for repairs. That is what brings him to Mayamba. A leopard has been prowling around the house every night. They have been able to open four new stations and to bring the sisters to three others. The last mail brought from an American benefactress of the Mission enough to establish and support for a year the mission of Our Lady of the Rosary.

(1906?)
Taylor, Daniel G.: St. Louis, (Missouri)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

(James F.) Edward's visit was satisfactory. Taylor can trace the little of the spiritual that is left in his life to Hudson. The inculcation of high moral standards in youth is more valuable than anything else.

(1906?)
Walsh, J(ames) J.: New York, (New York)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Dr. Walsh thanks Hudson for his kindly notice of his book. This is only the first of the series, and there will be at least one other set of Catholic Churchmen in Science. There will be issued next month a volume of Modern Makers of Medicine. There is also to be a little book on the Popes in the History of Medicine—the aftermath of some of the recent controversies. Walsh sends a reprint of the last blast in a controversy to Hudson. P.S. Walsh asks Hudson if he could get down the names of clergymen scientists he may recall. Walsh has the ones Hudson has mentioned in the Ave Maria.
