Claypool, John W.: Indianapolis, Ind(iana)
to J(ames) F. Edwards: Toledo, Ohio

He received the letter in which Edwards enclosed a letter from John F. O'Hara who sought to retain his father to represent Edwards' interests in the will of George Rhodius. Edwards has no need to do this; it would only shave his share of the legacy. He will do all in his power to uphold the will, and he doen't consider the woman a very important factor; he has good reasons. He return's O'Hara's letter. Edwards will find a full copy of the will in the clippings. he already sent.

1909 Dec. 25
O'Hara, John F.: Indianapolis, Ind(iana)
to James (F.) Edwards: (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Commercialism is the occasion of the expression of his compliments for the holiday season. He congratulates Edwards upon being a beneficiary in the will of Mr. Rhodius. His father would be glad to represent Edwards' interests; there would be no fee unless the will be sustained. His father has been successful in similar cases. He will see Edwards Jan. 5th (1910). Fraser, Mary C(rawford): Winthrop, Wash(ington)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Fraser's young people have been so happy over the three packages of books. She has read "Carmen's Secret" by the daughter of an old friend who helped her in the troubled time of her own conversion 26 years ago. Hudson's appeal for them in the Ave Maria has already brought much kind response. From four or five quarters they have received papers and tracts and magazines. Mrs. Murphy of Stillwater, Minn(esota) has gone on posting them regularly. She thanks Hudson for the review of "Giannella."

Hannon, John: Isleworth, (England)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.): Notre Dame, Indiana

Hannon has picked up what he thinks is an interesting Irish folk-tale about the Holy Family. He is sure it has never been published. Would Hudson like to have it? Why didn't they have a few Brothers O'Grimm going about Ireland at the period between the Union and the Famine to collect these stories? Now it is too late. Hannon is slowly mending though the weather keeps him indoors.

Seton, Archbishop Robert: Rome, Italy
to (James F.) Edwards: (Notre Dame, Indiana)

He has given up all idea of returning to America. He could not live on his small patrimony and pension. If he moved away, it would be to Florence, but it would be a sacrifice not worth making. His man, Giuseppe and his wife take good care of him. He asks what Edwards does with visiting cards. He had the pictures from booklets on the Mother Seton centennial celebration bound for the Pope and gave the work to him. He got the Blessing of the Pope on the community on the occasion of their celebration. He sent them an ostensorium but has not heard for two months from them.

Pam, Max: (Chicago, Illinois)
to Father Daniel E. Hudson, (C.S.C.): Notre Dame, (Indiana)

He thanks Hudson for his approval of his address. The subject matter gave him considerable concern and Hudson's explicit appreciation along with that of Father Cavanaugh and the other members of the faculty and the students makes it more than a "labor of love". He is looking forward to seeing all of them at Notre Dame. He is sending Hudson and Cavanaugh each a copy of the lecture which he had especially printed. He hopes he may be favored with a copy of the Ave Maria containing Hudson's editorial on the address.

Laura (McCarthy) told her Edwards had returned from Toledo. She hopes he had a pleasant Christmas and that the New Year will bring renewed strength.
