(1913)
Heuser, Father H(erman) J(oseph): Overbrook, P(ennsylvani)a
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Heuser did not know that the note of Bishop (Edmund M.) Dunne had reference to the Ave Maria. He could not conceive of anyone quarreling with the Ave Maria or Hudson. Heuser had taken the liberty of altering some part of the original to make it suitable as an address to the clergy. When Heuser informed Dunne of the changes, he sent a new version in which it plainly appeared that he had a grievance against the Ave Maria. It is contrary to the canons of the Ecclesiastical Review to be sued for such purposes as venting personal grievances. Heuser is done with the Bishop and only realized the mischief of the matter when Father Joseph McMahon of New York called.
