S(anders), C(ora) E.: Potomac, Montana
 to
University of Notre Dame(Notre Dame, Indiana)

Sanders wrote some time ago to see if she could secure a photostat of the letter of Mrs. Robert Louis Stevenson in Notre Dame's possession, stating the feelings of her husband toward Rev. (Charles M.) Hyde and his persecution of Father (Joseph) Damien (de Veuster, SS.CC.). It is to be used in a reprint, privately issued, of Stevenson's "Father Damien".

(In the Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C. papers).

Hudson, (C.S.C.) by Mrs. Robert Louis Stevenson concerning Dr. (Charles M.) Hyde. Menager, S.J., Father Edward Ch(arle)s: San Francisco, (California)
to Father (Thomas T.) McAvoy, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Menager expresses apologies that the telegram of Father (Edward J. Whelan, S.J.) reached Father McAvoy collect. W(illiam) A Clark, a non-Catholic, is anxious to vindicate Father (Joseph) Damien (deVeuster, SS.CC.) in a preface to a new edition of (Robert Louis) Stevenson's letters, which he is publishing at his own expense and hoped the letter would throw light on the real state of mind of Stevenson. Menager is sure that Clark understands McAvoy's inability to produce the letter. Whelan's desire was to vouch for his friendly interest and for the high standard of scholarship of Clark, who has put his fortune and leisure to noble uses, especially in the interest of literature.
