Geary, James A.: Washington, D(istrict of) C(olumbia)
to Father (Thomas T.) McAvoy, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Geary regrets not meeting McAvoy in Washington. Regarding the Indian letter McAvoy referred to him he wishes to suggest that the word Minig probably refers to Father (Ignatius) Mrak, later Bishop, since an exact translation of his name would have been a bad word in the Indian language. Mrak served for 11 years at Eagle Town, Leelanau County, Michigan and served the Indians at Arbre Croche. Geary is writing to St. Louis U(niversity) about a Potawatomi Grammar of Fr. Schultz. He hopes to make a catalogue of available manuscripts for microfilming. (Filed with Detroit Papers).
