Scope and Content

Scrapbook (1956-1989) of Mrs. Elizabeth Wukawitz, friend of Tom Dooley, which she sent to Father Hesburgh; consisting of letters from Tom Dooley to Mrs. Wukawitz and from Mrs. Wukawitz to Tom Dooley, draft of pages from "The Night They Burned the Mountain" transcribed from dictaphone recordings with corrections by Tom Dooley; clippings, photocopies of news articles, envelopes and mimeographed material.

Also correspondence concerning his Congressional Medal of Honor (1959-1979), a few of his circular "Letters from Laos"; and letters and documents involving Donald C. Stibich and having some connection to Dooley; and a transcript of a speech on Dooley given by Teresa Gallagher at Center for Social Concerns (Notre Dame) on January 30, 1986; Paris Match magazine 12 Feb 1955 with an article on The Way of the Cross in Indochina, p. 20 ff.; a copy of Dooley's book Deliver Us from Evil inscribed to Stibich by the author; Viet-Minh propaganda leaflets and pins; Dooley cufflinks; two Vietnamese flags; a fan; a Buddhist begging bag; a guide to Haiphong; Dooley death notices; ten Tom Dooley photographs, Haiphong 1955; awards presented to Dooley; and tape recordings of talks by Dooley.
