Scope and Content

Personal correspondence, photographs, and newspapers comprise the bulk of the collection; with the addition of company records, army records and printed materials. The collection spans from 1918-2009. The bulk of the collection was generated from 1939 to 1945 during Flynn's years as a college student and member of the armed forces. Materials from World War II form a large portion of the collection. Handwritten correspondence with family members, solider's guide books, newspapers, and ration cards document Flynn's wartime experiences while stationed in Italy. Other materials in the collection center on Flynn's Catholic education from grade school, through high school and college. After 1945 the majority of materials pertain to the Missouri Steam and Water Supply Company which Flynn owned and managed. There are legal and financial records from the Missouri Steam and Water Supply and Flynn Investment Company from 1990-1992. There is almost no material related to Flynn's personal life in the post-war years.
