Copies of ICEL correspondence, memoranda, agenda, meeting material and texts collected by Rev. Jeffrey M. Kemper in support of his doctoral dissertation, Behind the Text: A Study of the Principles and Procedures of Translation, Adaptation, and Composition of Original Texts by the International Commission on English in the Liturgy; also audio cassettes and microcassettes of interviews on ICEL.

Background

Started in 1963 in response to the mandate of the Second Vatican Council to provide liturgical texts in the vernacular, the ICEL operates by the authority of Roman Catholic bishops' conferences from English-speaking countries. In 2003 the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments formally established ICEL.
