Scope and Content

Papers (1950- ) documenting his work as book editor, Washington editor and editor-at-large for the National Catholic Reporter; consisting of correspondence, email, memoranda, research files, photocopies, drafts and manuscripts of writings (articles, essays, fiction, interviews), notes; a list of his books and works in progress; pocket-size appointment calendar books, 1988, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1996; with material on Msgr. Geno Baroni, how Catholicism confronts capitalism; pedophilia; the managerial meltdown of the Roman Catholic Church; his 1963 articles concerning Pope Pius XII and the Jews; and photocopies of transcriptions and English translations of Pierre Toussaint papers (chiefly letters he received) from the collection in the New York Public Library, with notes by Arthur Jones and others, related to his book published in 2003; and biographical information on Toussaint and related articles and reports.
