The photographic collection from Notre Dame Media Group consists of color and black and white prints, negatives, slides, and color born-digital photos. The images depict University events, student life, campus buildings, academics, sporting events, alumni events, faculty, staff, and other institutional departments.
Media Group (later AgencyND) regularly hired free-lance photographers. Unless a contract exists, the University Archives assumes that the individual free-lance photographers retain the rights to their works. Additional permissions and fees may be required for use of these images. Free-lance photographers found in this collection include Matt Cashore (before June 2007), Dar Cutrona, Gary Mills, Tony Kelly, Tim Scott, Lou Sabo, William Strode, Andrew Campbell, and John Dlugolecki.
This collection contains some of these photos by University staff photographers that were carried over from the Publications and University Photographers Office. The University Archives assumes that Notre Dame owns copyright to these images. Staff photographers include Ron Parent, Paul Wieber, Heather Gollatz, Kevin Burke, Linda Dunn, possibly Patrick Ryan, and Matt Cashore (after June 2007). However, it is possible that these photographers were hired as free-lance photographers when not a Notre Dame staff member.
There are a number of photographs that have no identification and the photographers are unknown.
Also five video tapes (Domers Through the Decades, Hesburgh: Priest of God, University of Notre Dame Beauty Reel, Nowhere Else but Notre Dame, and Fresh Accomplishments (NACUFS 2002 Conference Promo), and other audio-visual material.
Notre Dame Media Group was formed around 2004 after a reorganization of offices, including the Publications Office (PUB) and the University Photographers Office (PHR). In 2009, Media Group changed its name to AgencyND. This department is part of the Office of Public Affairs and Communication.
