We received Fr Juan Romero's records in 2003 and Fr Ramon Gaitan's records in 2011 through arrangements made by Tim Matovina, head of the Cushwa Center at Notre Dame, and with help from Nolvia Ramos of the Notre Dame Latino Center.

Scope and Content

Records kept by Fr Ramon Gaitan and Fr Juan Romero; consisting of bylaws, constitutions, press clippings, publications, directories, memoranda, letters, meeting material, papers from national congresses, recommendations, historical sketches, minutes, financial records, and interviews. Also audio recordings, slides and black-and-white photographic prints, publications by PADRES, and printed material collected by PADRES concerning Hispanic priests, bishops, sisters, and brothers.

Background

PADRES (Padres Asociados para Derechos Religiosos, Educativos y Sociales) was a national organization of Latino priests. Fr. Ramon Gaitan served as president up to 1989, when PADRES dissolved. Fr. Juan Romero served as executive director 1973-1976.
