Background

Tim (Timothy John) Roemer was born in South Bend, Indiana, in 1956. He has a Master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame, where his grandfather taught philosophy and his parents served as administrators. From 1991 until 2003 he represented Indiana's 3rd district as a Democrat in the House of Representatives. After his term in congress, he served on the 9/11 Commission and the National Parks Second Century Commission. In 2009 President Obama made him ambassador to India.
