The Research Committee of the CMSW was created in 1965 and under the direction of Sr. Marie Augusta Neal undertook a "systematic examination of the resources of Sisters in the U.S. for the work of the Church in the post-Conciliar era" (Notes on Plan of Research, August, 1966). Originally planned as a two stage study, the research developed into a many stage, multi-year project.
