Chicago banker, civic leader and prominent Catholic layman. He was chosen to organize the Catholic Lay Congress in Baltimore in 1889 and proposed an international lay congress to be held in Chicago in conjunction with the Columbian World's Fair Exposition in 1893. He served as the organizing chairman of the Columbian Catholic Congress that met with the Parliament of Religions at the Fair.
