1789 May. 1

St. Pierre, Father Paul, Discalced Carmelite
Kaokias (Cahokia, Illinois)

to Father (Antonio de Sedella), auxiliary vicar
(New Orleans, Louisiana)

Three years ago (Francisco) Cruzat, (lieutenant governor) asked (Sedella) to grant him (Paul) the parish of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri) but Father Louis (Guignes, O.M.Cap.) had already obtained this parish. Now this parish is vacant and he asks for it again especially as many of his parishioners have crossed over to the Spanish side of the river. A new establishment is being made below the junction of the (Ohio) river (New Madrid, Missouri). He offers himself for this place. He sends copies of papers legalized by the commandant of Ste. Genevieve (Henri Peyroux) to prove the falsehood of certain statements made about himself.
