1793 Dec. 30

Quinones, Estevan de, not. public
New Orleans, (Louisiana)

Appointment of Father Francis Lennan to the pastorate of Pensacola, (Florida) and Father Estevan de Valoria who was at Pensacola to one of the assistantships in the Church of St. Louis, (New Orleans).

1793 Apr. 28

Valoria, Father Estevan de
Pensacola, (Florida)

to Father T(h)eodoro T(h)irso (H)enrique Henriquez
New Orleans

This town badly needs another priest, likewise a chaplain of the battalion; at least three or four hundred persons miss Mass on days of obligation because of the lack of priests. Again the church holds only two hundred people. The priest who comes should know English. The governor (Enrique White) does not allow any pew rent so the church is in a wretched condition. Copy

Walsh, (Father) Patrick
New Orleans

to Francisco (Luis Hector), Baron de Carondolet
(New Orleans)

In consideration of the letter of Father Valoria he thinks it would be well to send Father Valoria to Natchitoches, (Louisiana) to fill the vacancy created by the death of Father Pedro de Velez and to remove Father Lennan from Colescreek, (Mississippi) to Pensacola as the one or two Catholic families at Colescreek can be cared for from Natchez, (Mississippi).

Carondolet, (francisco Luis Hector), Baron de
New Orleans

to Father Patrick Walsh
(New Orleans)

He sees no objection to the changes suggested by Father Walsh. Copy

1793 Nov. 11

Walsh, (Father) Patrick
New Orleans

to Father Estevan de Valoria
(Pensacola)

He has named Father Lennan pastor at Pensacola and Father Valoria to Natchitoches. As soon as he arrives Father Valoria is to hand over to Father Lennan by inventory drawn up with the assistance of Governor White and another person the church and what belongs to it. Then he is to come to the capital so as to be put in possession of the pastorate at Natchitoches. Copy

1793 Dec. 30

Walsh, (Father) Patrick
New Orleans

to Francisco (Luis Hector) Baron de Carondolet
New Orleans

Instead of sending Father Valoria to Natchitoches he wished to retain him as an assistant in the church of St. Louis in New Orleans since at present there are only two assistants and one of them is chaplain to the Ursulines.

--------
1793 Dec. 30

Carondolet, (Francisco Luis Hector) Baron de
New Orleans

to Father Patrick Walsh
New Orleans

He approves the proposed change of Father Valoria's appointment.

--------
1793 Dec. 30

Walsh, Patrick
New Orleans

He orders that these papers be put together in the archives so that it may be known what was done in this matter and orders be sent to the aforementioned Fathers to take possession of their respective charges.
