Gibault, Father Pierre
New Madrid, (Missouri)

to Bishop (Luis Penalver y Cardenas
New Orleans), Louisiana

Gibault has finally sent the list of his parishioners. He was unable to do so before because the snow and ice stopped the couriers and traders. He will do everything possible to fulfill his duties.

Gibault, Father Pierre
New Madrid, (Missouri)

to Bishop (Luis Penalver y Cardenas
New Orleans), Louisiana

Gibault thanks (Penalver) for his letter about indulgences. There were many more Easter Communions than other years, in fact, only the French of Gal(l)ipolis, (Ohio) have not received. They scarcely believe in God, some even seem to be atheists. They cause others to have doubts. He asks how to deal with them.

(Penalver y Cardenas, Luis), Bishop of
New Orleans, Louisiana

to Father Pedro Gibaud
(New Madrid, Missouri)

Penalver received Gibaud's two letters of April 25. The parish register is satisfactory. As to what to do about the French of Galipoli, he advises Gibaud to exhort them to be converted, but in case the admonitions fail, he must pray for them.
