The census of St. Bernard's parish of Galveztown for the year 1798. Total of souls 271, an increase of 34 over last year. Joseph Pauli, Captain of the Militia, has not made his Easter duty. This church has a fixed income and fees, 50 pesos a year. It needs a pulpit, a frontal, a black cope and complete repair.

Miguel Poire, native and resident of the parish of St. James of Caabanose appeared before (Penalver) and stated that he wished to marry M(ari)a Landry of the same nationality and asks that testimony be received on the following points: Poire is the son of Magdalena Richard and Juan Poire, son of Miguel Poire and Marg(ari)ta Richard. M(ari)a Landry is the daughter of Ana Cornie and Jose Landry, son of Oliverio Landry and M(ari)a Poirie, daughter of Miguel Poirie and Marg(ari)ta Richard. His fiancee's parents are poor and have eleven children and by marrying her he could also help them. Most of the Acadians in the parish are related. Poire asks (Penalver) to grant a dispensation and to direct their pastor to marry them. Father (Isidro) Quintero states at the beginning of the document that Poire appeared but did not know how to sign.

Having examined the testimony, Penalver grants the dispensation under the following conditions: that in the month before the marriage they make a general confession and two others, fast all the Fridays during that time, that they obtain twenty "Bulas" for the poor souls and that for the month they recite the rosary. On the fulfillment of these conditions, word will be sent to the pastor of Caabanoce that he may marry them. Quintero certifies this and adds that he notified Poire of it and that word was sent (to the pastor).
