to Bishop (Luis Penalver y Cardenas)
(New Orleans, Louisiana)

Carlota has been informed of (Penalver's) decree in which he orders that she give the 604 pesos to fulfill her husband's pious bequests. This cannot be done until the debts are paid and if the estate is sufficient. It seems that there will not be sufficient for the legacies nor for her dowry. She begs to be excused from payment.

Ximenez, Carlos
New Orleans, (Louisiana)

Ximenez certifies that by the inventories made at the death of Tribino and those made because of doubt by the Lieutenant Colonel, Senior Sergeant of this place, Gilberto Gilmand, the fortune of Tribino consists as of now of 3,735 pesos and 1 reale and has been turned over to the widow Carlota Fazende in part payment of 3,900 pesos which she brought as a dowry through a document drawn up before Rafael Perdomo on May 29, 1786. Therefore, there is not only not enough to pay outside debts but not even enough to complete the dowry.

Penalver y Cardenas, Bishop Luis
New Orleans, Louisiana

Since Carlota has proof by means of the certificate shown, that the estate is not sufficient to cover her dowry, much less to pay the debts or the pious bequests amounting to 604 pesos, Penalver declares her free of these obligations. Quintero certifies this as secretary and notes that entry was made in the register.
