A serious illness kept Blace from answering Hasset(t) sooner about his intentions to remain in Louisiana or retire to the dominion of His Catholic Majesty. His position is critical: 23 years in America, sickness, little knowledge of the Spanish language. Still a change of climate and certainty of a better existence in his old days; all this keeps him in suspense in the choice he must make. He will wait for better circumstances to change, either to Spain or to his own country.
