BASE OF LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN FROM CHATTANOOGA CREEK
1864

In October of 1863, General Ulysses S. Grant took control of the Federal forces in Chattanooga, a crucial rail junction on the Tennessee River. When the Confederate forces were defeated in November, Sherman made the city his main supply base for his Georgia campaign.
