The Story of Notre Dame
Brother Aidan's Extracts

SOAP

"The soap factory to be removed and given in charge to a Brother."

-- Local Council. 1865.

"The wash house at Notre Dame, which was only a shed was built on the edge of St. Joseph Lake, so that the clothes could be washed therein.... Brother John made the fire, took the clothes in a wheelbarrow from the laundry -- if we can call it such -- the (to) clothes room, and in his leisure moments made soap."

-- On the King's Highway -- M. Eleanore.
