TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA
(Brother Joseph to Sorin: Provincial Archives; Jan. 10, 1850) "I am actually sorry that I cannot go to Cincinnati because it would be the only place where I could have made something, whilst in Indiana I will make nothing.
"Am at the residence of Mr. Father Lalumiere. I have not seen Mother Theodore yet. I do not know what I will get from here and my other friends in the neighborhood."
(Bro. Joseph at this time was serving as colporteur.)
(Provincial archives) "The Proposal of the Rev. Mr. Lalumiere that we open a common school in Terre Haute was not accepted."
