Antonio Ramis, majordomo of the fabrique of the Cathedral, is to render an account of his administration with the documents to justify it. Father Isidro Quintero signs also as secretary and adds in a note that he notified Ramis of the decree.

Alain, as marguillier, asks Ramis to send thirty pounds of wax candles for the church. Father Bern(ar)do (Limpach, O.M.Cap.) tells him there is money in stipends in his possession which the king gave for the parishes. Alain is thinking of coming down to (New Orleans) as soon as possible and paying. (Parts of this letter are illegible; the above seems to be the meaning of it).

Of the 200 pesos for this cathedral, the majordomo is to distribute 100 pesos to the ten rural parishes (Ms. illegible here) given by the letter of the Intendant, (Juan Ventura Morales), dated September 27. The distribution is to begin in January 1798. The pastors should be notified so that the majordomos may go to the treasury to get the money(?). Quintero certifies this decree.

The arrangement proposed by (Penalver) to increase the amounts for each parish, totaling 834 (pesos). A note dated October 3, 1797 and signed by the bishop, states that this is a copy of the arrangement proposed to the Intendant in the letter of September 27.

Seeing the small difference in the arrangement of the stipends sent in (Penalver)'s letter of yesterday, Morales consents to it and is ready to act whenever (Penalver) sets the time to begin and the circumstances of the payments, that is, if it is to be made to the pastors or to the majordomos of each district.

Since Morales, in his letter of the 28th, leaves to (Penalver)'s free choice the appointment of a time to begin the distributions proposed in his letter of the 27, it seems to (Penalver) that the beginning of the year (17)98 would be best. The Cathedral will take only 100 pesos and the other churches what is assigned to them in the report. Payments will be made to the majordomos upon presentation of their appointment by the Vice Royal Patron and if they have been engaged by letter only, a certification from the pastor and Commandant. The pastors have been informed by circular letters that payment will be made to the majordomos. A note signed by the bishop states that this is a copy of the letter sent on the same date.

The majordomos are to go to the Treasury to obtain the stipends allotted to them, beginning in January, (17)98. This is a copy of the notice sent to the pastors of St. Charles of the German Coast, St. John Baptist, Santiago, Baton Rouge, Punta Cortada, Atakapas, Opelousas, Arkansias, New Madrid, and St. Genevieve. It is not to be sent to Colescre(e)k and to St. Charles of the Mis(s)ouri because the first is not functioning and the second has no pastor. Neither is it to be sent to Valuenzela, Galvestown, Natkitoches, Natchez, St. Louis of the Illinois, Pensacola and Mobile since they will continue to receive the same 50 pesos which they enjoyed before. the majordomos of the Cathedral will be informed that he will receive only 100 pesos of the stipends and will contribute nothing to the other churches.
