to Bishop (Luis Penalver y Cardenas
New Orleans, Louisiana)
Jose Lejeune, a resident of the parish of Valenzuela, appeared and said that he wished to marry Maria J(ose)pha Lebert of the same parish but could not because of the impediment of affinity. He asks (Penalver) to receive testimony as follows: He is a resident of the above parish, widower of Maria Adelaida Landry and son of German Lejeune and Maria Trahan. Maria J(ose)pha Lebert was the wife of Pedro Guedry, deceased, son of Claudio Guedry and And Lejeune, daughter of German Lejeune and Maria Trahan so that he and his fiancee are related in the second degree of affinity. His fiancee is very poor and left with five children, the oldest 14 years old. He asks that (Penalver) order the pastor of their parish to marry them. He presents the papers verifying his and her widowhood. Quintero states in a note at the beginning of the letter that (Lejeune) appeared but does not know how to sign.
