Consequent to the evacuation of Natches and Penalver's letter of January 16, Lennan came here with the vestments and sacred vessels from the church at Natches and Colescreek to minister to New Feliciana and the part of Bayou Sara in His Majesty's territory.

Natches is to be surrendered to the United States according to royal orders and so when the Commandant Estevan Minor withdraws, Lennan is to take the vestments, sacred vessels and all movable belongings to Punta Cortada as arranged by (Penalver) with the Governor-General. From there Lennan will aid the inhabitants of Feliciana and that part of Bayou Sara remaining in Spanish territory until otherwise decided. Colonel Carlos Grand-Pre will go to Baton Rouge; with him Lennan will see what is to be done. When Lennan has informed (Penalver), (Penalver) can decide about a proper establishment. He will arrange with the pastor of Punta Cortada to accommodate him at the parish house and (Penalver) encloses the attached for that purpose (no enclosure). The church at Natches does not seem fit to be moved. The governor thought that if a congregation of Catholics asked for it and there was a priest it would be a very acceptable act to give it to them. Lennan more than any other can promote this. Lennan is to work as a real pastor.

There being no one to act as sacristan, Lennan proposes for Penalver's approval, Pedro Servant and in order to obtain his salary, asks Penalver to send a letter to the Intendant and to order that the oblata of 500 pesos a year be paid to Lennan which the king allows to all pastors of the English and Anglo-Americans.

Heretofore, (Penalver) has not appointed the sacristans; he has left it to the pastors so Lenan can advise the Intendant about Servant. (Penalver) needs an inventory of all the goods belonging to the church at Naches which Lennan brought down to Ballu Sara and also if there was anything from Colescreek' and an account of the fees at Natches from January 1, (17)97 up to the time Lenan left, which he will add to those of '96. This answers the letter of July 16.

Lenan is to send an inventory of all the vestments and sacred vessels from the church at Naches which Lenan brought down to Ballu Sara and also if there was anything from Colescrec [Colescreek]. He is also to send an account of the fees from January 1, (17)97 up to the time he left that parish. (Penalver) will keep what Lenan sent for the year '96 and add this to it. He will also need information about the decree which this parish has and that it was right to vouch for his religion in order to withdraw from this place. Where has Lennan situated himself and what place is the most advantageous for the establishment.
