Maria Angelica Revoil, widow of Juan Josef Duforest appeared before (Penalver) and stated that her husband, being bankrupt because of the fire of March 21, 1788 which destroyed their house and merchandise, had made a trip to North America. On his return he owed 2250 pesos to Santiago Vanuxen and Herman Josef Lambaert, merchants in Philadelphia. Being unable to pay he made an agreement, as attached, making her sign it by repeated threats. She wishes to be released from the obligation, so that the case may be represented in secular court.

Having seen the petition to be released from the document executed before Pedro Pedesclaux, public notary on February 5, 1795, Penalver, because of her poverty and ignorance of the law, grants the release. Father Isidro Quintero certifies this.

Duforest and his wife appeared before Pedesclaux and the undersigned witnesses stating that he owed Vanuxen and Lambaert for goods supplied on October 15, 1789. Since he could not pay that amount, Pedro Domingo Robert of this city, agent for Vanuxen and Lambaert before the public notary,Pedro Estevan Duponseau on May 2, 1793 granted five years for the payment, 225 pesos each six months taking as a mortgage a house and land on Royal Street with about 42 feet of frontage and going back 120 feet bordering on that of Carlos Griffond and Miguel Fortier, which house and land is mortgaged, favor of Juan Ventura Morales, Royal official, for the sum of 770 pesos. Maria Angelica swears that she was not forced to agree to this (?). The witnesses were Miguel Gomez, Felipe Guinault and Santiago Lemaire.
