He asks Brownson to send circulars so that he might keep the one already sent in his personal notes. Guichainville is having difficulties with his Columbus photographs and thinks that he is the victim of an American trick. He asks if Brownson has attended the Fair in Chicago. He was forced to remain in New York, meeting friends from France who were en route to the Fair. His son still wishes to be remembered and hopes to receive some stamps soon. Brownson is invited to visit the Colonie du Hudson. Guichainville would like to show him the library which won so much praise from his friends. He pays his respects to Brownson.

Seton, W(illiam):
Tours, (France)
to Monsignor Robert (Seton:
Jersey City Heights, New Jersey)
(Seton)'s long Chicago letter came this morning. The account of the old mill is incorrect; it speaks of Robert Reid becoming its owner about the middle of the last century. Why, they knew Reid. He is sure Monsignor (Francis) Satolli was happy to meet Robert and go with him to Notre Dame. Robert's memories of his first visit to Chicago were of course sad; Carley (Carleton Bayley) is gone and there is not even a stone to mark his grave. W(illiam) and Sally will sail for home on November 25. They have asked Mr. De Lafontaine and eldest daughter to dinner. He is a retired Indian civil service officer. Sally is reading the "Correspondent". Their father took it 38 years ago at Bonn. W(illiam) is glad that Robert kept out of the Satolli- (Archbishop Michael A.) Corrigan trouble; it smacked of Donnybrook and Robert is a Seton. W(illiam) is glad to hear of Sands.

Seton, Father Robert:
Jersey City, N(ew) J(ersey)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
As regards the Parliament of Religions much might be said for both sides. In an interview with two Jersey City papers Seton said that Catholics were the only ones who would come out of it with honor and profit. They seized upon an occasion to present the doctrine of the Church to a large number of non-Catholics. He spoke to Monsignor (Francis) Satolli at the Columbus Club reception about this Parliament. As a person born in a Catholic country where non-Catholics have practically no status he disfavored it. Seton explained that Catholics are to a large extent ignored by the majority of Americans. They want to be known and have an opportunity of stating their doctrines on vital points. They have that opportunity now. Seton flatters himself that he made a favorable impression on the Apostolic Delegate. It must have made the heart of every Catholic leap to have heard Bishop (John Joseph) Keane speak to an audience of 4000 on the Incarnation idea. As one who took part in this Parliament of Religions, Seton wishes someone could be found to say a good word in behalf of their work.
