(Chicago, Illinois)
to Brother:
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
She gives many thanks for sending her Drusie's letter, the Scholastics and the calender. It seems strange to her that Father (John A.) Zahm, (C.S.C.) takes Father (William) Corby's. (C.S.C.) place; he is always absorbed in science. She would like to see Professor (James F.) Edwards.

She begs Edwards not to let Cha(rles Rush) go to the city without him; she does not want that child spoiled. She is so sick, hardly able to hold her head up.

to (Henry F. Brownson:

Father (Herman) Meiners, S.J. said that Cardinal (John Henry) Newmanin his Essay had done the work of a Protestant, and that it should not be judged as a Catholic work. Doyle quotes and cites a number of Newman's holdings from the 1878 edition, trying not to quote those used by Orestes Brownson. He also quotes Newman's "Anglican Difficulties."
