Hallam, O.F.M., Father Wilfrid-Mary:
Wei-Hai-Wei, N(orth) China
to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C.:
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
He sends Hudson a copy of "L'Echo de la Mission de Shantung Oriental". Hallam was in Chefoo last month and learned that the sailors in the United States' service on the China station are still without a chaplain. One of the wants of the mission at Wei-Hai-Wei is Sisters. The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary would like to inaugurate an orphanage, a hospital, and dispensary, and a workroom for the women and girls. Hallam hears that the Ave Maria has one million readers. The entire cost of the buildings would be covered by one million cents.

Morrissey, (C.S.C.), Father A(ndrew):
New York, (New York)
to (James F. Edwards:
Notre Dame, Indiana)
He has decided to go to Paris direct. He has three points to discuss with the General: financial, the Brother, an undue development of one wing of the Community (contrary to rule and the last General Chapter); and authority. Edwards should give him all the points he can about Rome. The plan of receiving as many letters as possible at Angers opens the eyes of the French as to the friends one has. The latest he got from his friend in the Minims is that the Provincial (Father John A. Zahm, C.S.C.) is very anxious about his going with Archbishop (Alexander) Christie. He could say plenty.

Stoddard has not seen La Jolla. He heartily hates San Francisco. Catholic University of America was certainly not the place for him and he counts those 13 years wasted. Stoddard has not smoked in 12 years. Morris(!) Francis Egan is probably the worst enemy Stoddard every had. Stoddard has been wounded by those whom he has trusted.
