Rome, (Italy)
to James F. Edwards:
Notre Dame, Ind(iana)
At the close of a dinner which Cardinal Satolli gave, the tenth anniversary of his election to the Cardinalate, the Cardinal spoke to him about the work Edwards ordered from Frengueli. They had discontinued the pictures until word from Edwards. If Edwards would speak to Father (John W.) Cavanaugh, the matter would be considered favorably. He would like to see the pictures at Notre Dame.

Jamet, Father A.:
Neuilly, (France)
to (James F.) Edwards:
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
The coming of Father (Andrew) Morrissey and the resolution of Father General (Gilbert Francois) to go and bring with him all he intended to send has detained him. He wrote Father (August) Goupille for a list of books wanted but he got no answer. HE had long interviews with Morrissey and Archbishop (Alexander) Christie. He does; not know if all the creations of Father (John A.) Zahm are as great a failure as the appointment of the Superior of Portland, but His Grace has doubts on the point. Father P.J. Franciscus will leave on the 20th for Canada first. He hopes that it is not too late to save the congregation. He sends by slow freight the books promised.

Stockley, W(illiam) F. G.:
Cork, Ireland
to (Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
He thanks Hudson for rescuing Goldwin Smith from the violence of newspaper men. The Church reforms breviaries from time to time. Smith does not think much of the sensitive regard for truth of an institution that would insert such a Mass.

Creedon, F( ) D.:
Honolulu, Hawaii
to Father Daniel E. Hudson, (C.S.C.):
Notre Dame, Ind(iana)
He is sending enclosed clippings from the "Pacific Commercial Advertiser," giving the letter of E.C. Bond in which he states that Reverend (Charles M.) Hyde was laboring under a mistake. He also encloses clippings of all the correspondence between Father James (C. Beissel), Provincial of the Catholic Mission, and Bond. Creedon tried to obtain the original letter but it had evidently been thrown away. Creedon also had a talk with Father A. Burghouts, the Catholic priest at Kohala, and a relative of Bond. Some two years or so ago Creedon wrote a long article on this matter which appeared in the New York Freeman's Journal, the Irish World, and other papers. (The clippings concern the) Rob(er)t Louis Stevenson-Hyde controversy over Father (Joseph) Damien (de Veuster, SS.CC.) (running from) June 10, 1905 to September 27, 1905.
