Tiernan, F(rances) C(hristine Fisher):
Salisbury, N(orth) C(arolina)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Tiernan is deeply obliged by the $250 advance, but did not understand that Hudson expected a portion of the manuscript before making the advance. She will get to work immediately on it. In asking for $100 on "Flower of the Almond" she overlooked the statement that she had been overpaid on "The Light of the Vision". She does not keep accounts as well as she should.

Skinner, Henrietta Dana:

to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Skinner sends by registered mail a sketch of the shrine of St. Henry at Bamberg, Bavaria. She thanks Hudson for the kind notice of "Faith Brandon" in the Ave Maria which was appreciated after "America's" severe criticism. Mr. Skinner sends his regards.

(Bickerstaffe-Drew, Father Francis Browning D.) John Ayscough:
Salisbury Plain, (England)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
They received Hudson's check for $13. Did the editor of the Catholic World ever send him the manuscript of Faustula? If Hudson does not want it he is to sent it to Benzigers.

Tiernan, F(rances) C(hristine Fisher):
Salisbury, N(orth) C(arolina)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Tiernan thanks Hudson for the German paper with its notice of "The Light of the Vision." One of the Benedictines translated it for her. She encloses (no enclosure) a letter from her old friend Bishop MacDonald of Victoria. He liked the Roman story and Tiernan liked his critique of (Francis) Marion Crawford's "White Sister". She has never been able to reconcile Crawford's reported Catholicity with his work.

Paris, (France)
to Father (Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Wilson thanks Hudson for the leaflet of Cardinal (John H.) Newman's words. She sends a picture of the Blessed Joan d'Arc. Wilson writes to know if a manuscript can be sent which is nearly finished for the Ave Maria. It is drawn from the life of Blessed Margaret Mary and especially of Father de la Colombiere who was confessor of Mde de Lyonne. Wilson also ventures to send a second volume of poems. Wilson is still in France and cannot face England without a home.

(Stone), C.P., Father Fidelis:
Jesus-Maria, (Argentina)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Stone has thought of Hudson, Notre Dame and St. Mary's often since his return to South America. He first came to Buenos Aires in 1881, and did not expect to return, and went without preparations or farewells. It was his last chance to do something before the end. For a good while back in the States he felt that something had gone wrong with his life. A year and four months have passed since his return and he has no regrets or misgivings. Part of the time was spent in Brazil and since March he has been up in the Sierras. They are building a monastery near a little town called Jesus-Maria. The house will be a center for operations in the north. He sends the pictures of their two earliest foundations in Argentina (no enclosure).

(Hess), O.S.F.C., Father Cuthbert:
Oxford, (England)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Four years ago Cuthbert made a tour in Italy of most of the Franciscan places at which St. Francis had lived in search of material for his "Life of St. Francis", which is to be published next October. Could Hudson use any of the sketches which Cuthbert made of the various shrines of St. Francis? He thanks Hudson for the many kind notices of his books and articles.
