Tiernan, F(rances) C(hristine Fisher):
Salisbury, N(orth) C(arolina)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Tiernan sends the opening chapters of her new story. If Hudson dislikes the present title, he may change it to "Royall's Wife." She was glad he is regaining his health. Her strength is coming back after a long illness. She asks for a further advance of $300 on the story which will make a total of $550 advanced.

Vickrey, Charles V.:
New York, (New York)
to Father Daniel B(!) Hudson, C.S.C.:
Notre Dame, Ind(iana)
Vickrey thanks Hudson for sending him the letter from his missionary apostolic, Bishop George (Calavassi) Calavassy and he is glad that Hudson has assured him that Catholics who prefer another depository can easily send their gifts through the Vatican. They are endeavoring to be non-partisan in their ministry of mercy, and welcome the cooperation of anyone. Vickrey wishes someone could take the lead in getting large sums from parochial and other schools. They expect to get at least a million dollars from the Sunday schools at Christmastime, and he regrets that most of it will come from Protestant schools merely because they have not been able to get access to the Roman Catholics. There is no proselyting motive underlying their work.

Guiney, L(ouise) I(mogen):
Oxford, (England)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Will Hudson tell her something about a sonnet in the Ave Maria of Dec.7 entitled "Th' Essential Image of Eternal Good"? It sounds like the work of a Catholic poet, a contemporary of Shakespeare. She has his verses in an old manuscript copy and will some day edit them. The date is as early as 1598. Would it he possible to let her have the headlines and titles that she might compare with the manuscripts she has.

C(hristitch), E(lisabeth O'Brien):
Belgrade, Serbia
to Father D(aniel E.) Hudson, C.S.C.:
Notre Dame, Indiana
No papers or magazines reach her. Hudson is to send nothing there but a letter. No, he is to let it go to London where Anne soon returns. She is glad her manuscripts were available. They do not know whether Belgrade will be attacked by other foes. (The card is a picture of Jug Bogdan and his 9 sons who fell at Kossovo in 1389.)

(Bickerstaffe-Drew, Father Francis Browning D.) John Ayscough:
Salisbury Plain, (England)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Ayscough wonders if Hudson received his paper on San Giovanni in Laterano. He now sends number two of the Roman pilgrimage. About a month ago his mother, 83, had a stroke; the nurses are gone and she gets up every day.
