Halle, Marie: London, (England)
to Father (Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

She has been writing the lives of Cardinals Pole and Allen and Dr. Lingard. The war has cut her writing time as she is engaged in helping the wounded and the Belgian refugees. However, she is thinking of sending and article on their war work as soon as she can write it. She writes under the name of Martin Haile.

Mannix, Mary E.: SandDiego, Calif(ornia)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Mannix has a recollection of having heard those encomiums before. She is glad to have such praise from such a source. She has always felt poems were her very best works. Mannix does not have a drop of German blood in her veins, nothing but Irish. She is waiting for her French book to return.

Tiernan received copies of "The Secret Bequest". She likes the style in which the book is issued. Mr. Garrity of Devin Adair writes that he was sorry he was not given the opportunity to publish the book. The books he has issued have not done well. Tiernan thanks Hudson for answering her inquiry abour "Mary's Meadow Papers", which she wants for their Reading Circle. She has read some of Mrs. Armel O'Connor's papers in magazines and found them very charming.

Guiney, L(ouise) I(mogen): Oxford, (England)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Guiney writes to tell Hudson of the death of Mrs. (Anne) Ffoulkes. Edmund Salusbury Ffoulkes, her husband, one time Vicar of Newman's church, became a Catholic back in the '60's or '70's. Before long he lapsed and she lapsed, too. After his death Mrs. Ffoulkes came back to Oxford to live, about 1900, and told the Jesuit Fathers she was doing so in a spirit of reparation.

Hinkson, Katharine Tynan: Claremorris, Ireland
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.): (Notre Dame, Indiana)

Hinkson thinks Hudson will like this story she is sending. The article on Roger Billingham has been so much liked. She does not think Lord and Lady Aberdeen will come Hudson's way. Her oldest boy, 18, has just got a commission in the Royal Irish Regiment. The next oldest enters Sandhurst in February. So Pamela will be without her brothers.
