Sister has been transferred to this place because there was need of an English-speaking nun, but her heart remains in Chentingfu which has been inundated several times. The railway bridges are out and no train can reach the town to bring grain and coal. All the harvests are lost. The mission needs money to help these people and she asks Hudson's aid. The church is in ruins because of the rains. She thanks Hudson for the check received.

If Hudson had to read the manuscript twice she fears he would prefer something else. She will soon finish her story laid in Mexico. If Hudson thinks he might like it, she will send the manuscript.

Sister Superior at Chentingfu asks her to write and thank Hudson for the check. She says the misery is appalling. Everything was carried away by four successive inundations. The rail bridges are still out and two men drowned trying to get the Bishop's truck through with food. The sisters and priests are sharing what little food they have with the people that flock to them. The surrounding areas of Taotingfu and Tientsin are also flooded. Sister Guerlain at Chentingfu does not waste a cent of the money.
