She sees by Hudson's silence that he does not want another serial. Tiernan sold the rights to "By Strange Paths" to Mr. Garrity for an inadequate sum of $250, and would not have sold it if she could have foreseen Hudson's present offer. If it were not for Hudson not one of her stories which have appeared in the Ave Maria in the last 25 years would have been written. Would Hudson like a serial to begin next July in place of "By Strange Paths." She had to give up all idea of entering into the competition for the best novel with its $10,000 prize. She couldn't finish the novel in time. As far as the advance goes she only wants the amount he was going to pay for her other story.

McBee, Silas:
New York, (New York)
to Father Daniel (E.) Hudson, C.S.C.:
Notre Dame, Ind(iana)
Hudson's letter of July 8 only intensified McBee's desire to have something from Hudson for the Constructive Quarterly. McBee was impressed by Hudson's remark that "the creed of the Church is in reality so short and the polemics have made it so long." Perhaps Hudson has some writer in mind whom he might interest in the matter and secure an article from him.

Tiernan is grateful for the $300 check received today. She is going to offer Hudson a story with a Mexican setting which she half-finished two years ago. It was intended for a secular magazine but she will introduce some distinctly Catholic matter into it.
