Chao, George B.:
Maredsous, (Belgium)
to Father (Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Hudson writes and acts like Cardinal Newman and Father Healy is Father St. John Ambrose. Chao is studying for the examination in October. Rome is now "serious" about the Chinese matter. The Chinese Church would be prosperous out of French hands as well as the condition in the United States fifty years ago. Father Vincent Lebbe, C.M. is the most influential man at Propaganda about the way of doing things in China. Native clergy is of the most importance but Lebbe lacks money. China is not hard to convert. There are about thirty Chinese students in the University of Louvain. Majority passed but few failed in engineering schools. They all know about Notre Dame and her football team.

Courson, Countess Barbara de:
La Morosiere, (France)
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Hudson's check reached her in the country, but she will soon return to Paris. She is going to visit the parish of the venerable Noel Pinot who is to be beatified in October. Courson thinks of Hudson as her infirmities increase. Her legs are shaky, but if her head keeps clear, she must not complain. The Congress of Chicago was a revelation to many French pilgrims of the spiritual vigor and fervour and material prosperity of the Catholic Church in the United States.

Christitch, E(lisabeth O'Brien):
London, England
to Father (Daniel E.) Hudson, (C.S.C.):
(Notre Dame, Indiana)
Christitch thanks Hudson for accepting her Catholic Swiss article and for sending papers that reproduced it, and for his defence of women. There is some mistake on Hudson's side or their archbishop's who was sure he saw and spoke with Hudson and that Hudson gave him stipends for his clergy. In the whirl of the Congress either Hudson mistook his visitors or the archbishop mistook some other priest at Notre Dame for Hudson. Hudson is to go on praying that Janie (Christitch) may make a foundation in Serbia one day.
