Letters and printed material concerning the errection of a dome and statue of the Virgin Mary on the Main Building. Correspondents include contributors to the dome fund and persons involved in the project, especially Harry Diffle of the Ornamental Iron Works in Chicago. A list of donors and the amounts they gave is also included.

Legal documents and correspondence concerning an 1879 contract between Father Sorin and Fr. Thomas A. Hayes CSC for Sorin to purchase a building in San Francisco and land in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Correspondents include Hayes and David J. Miller, clerk at the US Surveyor General's Office in Santa Fe. A copy of the contract is included along with notes by Philip S. Moore CSC, who was apparently researching the case in the 1960s. Although the contract was signed by Sorin, the transaction was never passed by the Local Council and therefore never consumated.

DeSeille (?-1839), a missionary to the Indians of Northern Indiana who was buried at Notre Dame. Legal documents include a contract between Sorin and Melanie DeSeille and correspondence with a P.M. Flannigan of Chicago concerning the original Indian rights to the land.
