The essay contains Gordon's reasons for his pacifist standpoint.

A statement in German, but with a background introduction in English. The statement was handwritten at the request of Fr. Heinrich Kreuzberg, the prison chaplain. After the war it was sent to Pastor Karobath of St. Radegund and placed in the "Jaegerstaetter file". Gordon had translated it for his book from the old German script used by Jaegerstaetter to the contemporary script.
