Robert Wood ~ President of U of Mass ~ Correspondence back and forth concerning President Wood's action of requesting Chancellor Broderick's resignation. 2 newspaper articles are included. ~ article in the Boston Globe announces that Broderick has been asked to resign because he has been permissive in turning over administration to faculty and students. 6/26--Gordon writes to President Wood, saying that he is shocked and dismayed about the decision to request Chancellor Broderick's resignation, and the way in which it was handled. He gives strong support for Broderick's character even though they have disagreed at times over the years. 6/27--Gordon writes to Frank Broderick to express his regret and encloses a copy of the letter to President Wood. 6/27--article in the Boston Globe says that a faculty student panel voted unanimously to urge Broderick not to resign. 6/29--Broderick writes a memo to the faculty saying that he decided to offer his resignation to the board of trustees and it was accepted. He will continue on as a member of the faculty only. 7/5--Broderick writes Gordon to thank him, but says he doubts Wood got the point of what he was saying. 7/7--President Wood responds to Gordon saying that misunderstanding was generated from the newspaper articles and that he and the trustees felt it was time for new leadership.
