Progress in East West Talks

The surprising news came from Stockholm that at the Conference on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures and Disarmament in Europe, with all 35 member states participating, an agreement has been reached on troop inspections between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. This should protect against surprise attacks from either side.

The Conference of Confidence- and Security-Building Measures and Disarmament in Europe is little known in America. Here, interest is more focused on talks about global disarmament between East and West, for which positive signs of an understanding do show up. Obviously, diplomatic efforts - both on the regional and global levels - are coordinated with each other.
