September 1864

Atlanta was an important railroad junction for all of the upper South, which was one of the reasons its capture was so disastrous for the Confederacy. All these buildings were destroyed by Sherman before he evacuated Atlanta, and the tracks were torn up and the rails were heated and bent to make them useless.
