The Story of Notre Dame
Brother Aidan's Extracts

Father Fitzgerald -- Fr. Sorin: St. Joseph's Church. (Provincial) "Would it be possible to get a colony of your Brothers to conduct a school here? We have a fine brick and stone building, furnished and in use since last year only under a lay teacher. We feel it would be much better to have a permanent instructor or instructors or some religous order. The Archbishop of St. Louis is quite willing and satisfied to have you establish a house in the diocese. I send you herewith a photo of my school. We keep some boarders in our school as parents at a distance prefer to have their boys board in the school. We have ample room. Building 30' x 60' and three stories high." 1886
