(March 5, 1849) "It was agreed upon that lots should be bought in South Bend and that a carpenter should be hired to build houses there to be rented or sold; but as masonry is very dear it was thought proper that a mason should be employed for six months and that Brother Dominic should learn the trade under his direction."
