Brother Aidan's Extracts

SAN FRANCISCO

(Archbishop Alemany letter.. 1859, Provincial Archives) "Archbishop Alemany writes to Archbishop Purcell, Cincinnati, that he is in need of Brothers to care for boy orphans of his diocese. He tried for three years to secure the Christian Brothers but failed. He asks Purcell to urge Father Sorin, Provincial of the Congregation of Holy Cross, to send a few Brothers. Alemany encloses a letter to be given to the Provincial only if Purcell approves the order."
