Colman, Father (James) Santiago
Pensacola, (Florida)

to (Bishop Luis Penalver y Cardenas
New Orleans, Louisiana)

The census of the parish of St. Michael of Pensacola for the year 1797 shows a total of 755. It is not possible to state the increase because in preceding reports the troops and their families were included which is not done in this one as the troops have their chaplain. Too many have failed to make their Easter duty; their names are attached (no enclosure). The church has a permanent income of 50 pesos and for this year 21 pesos, 4 reales in incidental fees. The church needs vestments, the ones there are much worn. Guillermo Panton and his dependents up to 80, included among the Protestants, are British subjects permitted by His Majesty for commerce with the Indies.
