Mais, a native of St. Amand in French Flanders married at Natkitoches, Mariana Dartigo, a native of Bayonne, who died in February 1797 leaving a son aged 11 and two daughters 8 and 6. since M(ari)a Connan, wife of Juan Bautista Dartigo, deceased, was godmother of his daughter, Agatha, Maes asks for a dispensation in order to marry her. He supposes that the fact that Maria had been married to Dartigo, Mais' first wife's brother , will not be an impediment. Maria's only son is dead.
